09/07/2017 by CN – Some homeowners may notice a plant or tree with black berries and short thorn-like spikes on the stem or branches. There’s a good chance you may have a problem with Buckthorn which is an invasive species that crowds out most other plants if it goes unchecked.
At the moment there does not seem to be an official policy by the city of Maple Grove, but I think one will be posted on their site in the near future. For now you can refer to the City of Plymouth’s web site or just do a Google search for more information on buckthorn.
Update: The City of Maple Grove is directing people to information on Buckthorn at the State of Minnesota web site.
SCAM ALERT: We’ve received report of a fraudulent service call in Brooklyn Center.
Brooklyn Center Police Department has told us that a man claiming to work for a gas company is asking for access to homes, then burglarizing them. Always ask any service providers that come to your home or business to show proof of ID. If you have any doubts about a service call, please call our 24/7 customer service line at 1-800-895-4999 to verify work scheduled for your residence. Crime is rare in Hidden Meadows, but it can occur. Don’t make it easy for someone with bad intent. Keep garages and sheds closed and locked. Make sure you lock any ground floor windows that can be easily accessed from the front as well as your rear deck or patio. Consider adding a delivery door (like a doggie door) where packages can be left. Or some type of outside box painted the same color as your home. Avoid making delivery persons leave boxes with large smile logos stacked on your front steps.
And consider investing in one or more inexpensive ($15-$30) motion sensitive dashcams that can be installed in your car or even in front and rear windows of your home. They are less expensive than a web cam and completely self-contained. They just need a power source and can watch over your home 24×7.
